The FAT16 primary partition recovery program 'MDR' (Monir's Data Retriever) is ready and now available. Although it's not up to the mark, I hope it will help atleast to some extent.
The link had a problem and a run-time error message came due to problem in the program which I've fixed promptly. Please download the new ZIP file.
Welcome to Monir's Domain
Greetings from me - Monirul Islam Sharif. Welcome to my Domain. This site has gone under major changes, and there are more to follow. I am planning to slowly change this site into place where you will not only find my utility programs, but also information about different technical topics related to computers, programming tips, source code of some of my programs etc. The information I want to keep here will be aimed at all sorts of users. So I would like to cut the technical crap and details so things are easily understandable and give them separately so that people wanting in-depth knowledge will also be helped.
For now this site is aimed at data recovery utilities. My first one MRECOVER, and the other two MRECOVER XL and MDR are all available here for free download. You will find here information about these programs, how it works and its limitations. I have added information about the CIH virus (also known as Chernobyl virus), overview of the storage structure of data inside a hard disk, advice about keeping data safe and a few more things.
If you are hit by the CIH virus and have a FAT32 primary partition you should be able to recover all your data (100% recovery) using MRECOVER. If you have FAT16 in the first partition you will only be able to recover all the partitions except the first one.
I've Finally released the large hard disk version of MRECOVER and named it as MRECOVER XL. I had to delay its release for a lot of reasons. The most important of all is I had to test it thoroughly on a new bought 10GB hard disk of mine. The new version should work with hard disks larger than 8GB. But still I recommend the original. MRECOVER 1.85 for smaller hard disks. The reasons is that MRECOVER XL uses different routines and works in a much lower level so I'm not sure about the compatibility, though I've made it safe. Please view the MRECOVER XL page for more info.
Version 1.06

If you have tried MRECOVER XL 1.0 and have that you can only view the root directory but not its contents then try this version. The previous one sets the cluster size incorrectly for some sizes of FAT32 partitions.
Sorry to say that this XL is causing a lot of incompatibility problems (hard disks are not being detected properly, unwanted exits etc). I've been working on it and hope to release a completely bug fixed version within a few days.

MRESCUE
This program should protect against future data loss of all kinds by keeping all vital information about partitions, FAT etc in a safe location on your hard disk. So if used before the incident, you should be able to get back in action again after MRESCUE reconstructs the vital portions of your disk. I'm trying to make it in a way that each time you run the computer it will save an image. Well, there are a lot of professional software out there that already does this, but I was willing to make one of my own, MRESCUE will be small, and free.
I've readied the BETA version that I would like some beta-testers to test. In the beta version I've kept the the FAT16 core of MRESCUE for now. Please click on the following link to visit the related page.
Recent changes to my domain:
In this portion I will give a list of changes that I've made to my domain.
I thank all the people out there for sending inspiring e-mails and heartfelt thanks to me, and it really makes me feel happy to help. For those who couldn't get back your data using MRECOVER, I hope you could get other utilities that could do the job. And I believe by now there should be a lot of utilities that uses the same technique that I've used. And I'm getting a numerous number of e-mails and sometimes I'm taking too long to reply, sorry. And thanks again for visiting my domain.
